DREAMWHEELS - BESPOKE WHEELSETS

Besides the frame itself, the most important part of your bicycle is the wheels. A good quality wheel set can drastically improve the bikes handling, speed and overall feel. I am a firm believer in hand built wheels over machine built because of the extra care and attention that only comes from the human eyes, hands and mind.

I have been building custom wheels for twenty years now, and while I don't have an exact record (many were done through shops I've worked in) - I have estimated around 3000 wheels have gone out to happy owners over the years, which is not a bad track record.

What sets a good local wheel builder's product apart from factory built products is the human interaction. This is such an underrated aspect but it is crucial to the process. Manufacturing lines do not know simple things like your weight, riding style, budget and bike aesthetics. A good wheel builder will ask questions about your ride profile - just like a good sales person will when you're purchasing the bike in a shop. The ride profile we create helps designate and provide sound choices for your custom wheel set. Everything from rim/spoke/hub selection to lacing patterns and the most important - after sales support and maintenance. The final product is truly custom to your needs, and the tolerances and detail that go into the wheel set is generally higher than you would find in 'off the shelf' products.

There is no set pricing for custom wheel sets (as every wheel is different), the price fluctuates too rapidly with exchange rates and wholesaler pricing etc...so if youre interested in my custom wheel options it's simply best to use the contact link in the menu

WHEELBUILDING 101

One of the best parts of having custom wheels is learning to construct them yourself! For the truly custom experience I offer a wheel building 101 class for students who wish to be involved 100% along the way with their custom wheel sets. We cover every aspect of professional wheel building. These are as follows:

  • Introduction to wheel building

  • Rim / spoke / hub / nipple selection

  • Spoke calculation

  • Spoke cutting, rolling threads

  • lacing, alternate lacing styles (if requested)

  • Tensioning

  • Lateral / radial truing

  • Preventative maintenance

Wheelbuilding classes start at $99.00 - You are not required to purchase components from me to learn wheel building. Many students bring parts purchased online and want to simply learn how to assemble it all!
